Grass Stains

do you remember when you were young?
Carpet burns and sticky fingers.
Grasping an icepop in your hand while
           running for the swing.
     crunching it up in your mouth.
                and sucking the last bit of juice out
before you throw the plastic on the ground.  

          "look how blue my tongue is!"

Feeling superior to the others
when you catch the first firefly,
even though night is still 15 minutes off.

"they don't bite, they're real nice bugs."

all bright and light, shining fluorescent like
those stars starting to peak out over the top of the house.
